Description
Betta Pond Sealer is a plastic coating for concrete ponds which forms a non-porous tough durable but flexible seal.
- It is quick and easy to use with no primer required.
- Seals out lime.
- Can be used at low temperatures.
- Coverage… Varies slightly depending on porosity but on a normal porous cement render 3 coats are required using 550g per square metre (for all 3 coats)
Instructions and guidance for use:
- Surface Preparation: the render should not have water proofer added to the mix, this will prevent Betta Choice Pond Seal Clear penetrating the render.
- If it has been added, sand off the surface of pond before applying Betta Choice Pond Sealer.
- The render must be dry enough to be porous.
- New ponds should be given 14-21 days to dry before being coated and the surface should be checked for cracks in the render and repaired and allowed to dry before coating.
Application:
- Betta Choice Pond Seal Clear is a 3-coat system, building up three thin layers to form a waterproof plastic seal, do not apply in thick coats as this will impede the curing of the polyurethane. It can be applied by brush or roller but do not load roller with too much Betta Choice Pond Seal and do not allow it to pool in the bottom of the pond.
- Apply the first coat. When this is tacky like strong cellotape or touch dry, apply the second coat of clear and when this is tacky, apply the final coat.
- Do not allow more than 3 hours between coats, as Betta Choice Pond Seal Clear will start to chemically cure. If this does happen, allow 24 hours, sand back and apply the finishing coats.
Filling your pond:
- After 72 hours, Betta Choice Pond Seal Clear will be fully cured. You can then wash the pond using a soapy sponge, then dry the pond. If you have a bottom drain, you can hose it out and you are then ready to fill your pond.
Other important information:
- Coverage… Varies slightly depending on porosity. On a normal porous cement render 3 coats are required using 500-550g grams per square metre (for all 3 coats).
- Curing time: will depend on the temperature, but as a guide, allow approximately 45-60 minutes between coats.
- Betta Choice Pond Seal will not adhere to bitumen coated ponds or pond liners.
- A Polyurethane sealant should be used to seal around pipework.
- Betta Pond Seal should only be used inside the pond, a UV sealer should be used to coat outside coping stones around the pond.
- Contents 1kg, sufficient for covering up to 1.8m² (3 coats), perfect for doing little repair jobs or working on a watercourse.
